“Hal roach’s 1920s silent comedies series”
When: Saturday, April 14, 2012
Where: E.T. Carson Masonic Lodge, 218 Ludlow Avenue, (Clifton) Cincinnati, OH 45220
Time: ~6:45 - 10PM?
Theme: “Hal roach’s 1920s silent comedies series”
What to bring: Snacks, chips, water, soft-drinks, appetizers, etc. to share with others in attendance.
Cost: $5 adults; free to paid members of ‘The Chimp Tent’ and to all children 12 years and younger
Why: To preserve the legacy of Laurel and Hardy and to have plenty of laughs!

This upcoming April 14 film event will screen some silly silent cinema selections including: 

 Max Davidson’s chicken dinner causes his neighbor indigestion in “Pass The Gravy” (1928)
 Our Gang’s bottled fleas get loose during a wedding leading to “Thundering Fleas” (1926)
 Charley Chase is on his way to get married but instead finds his “Limousine Love” (1928)
 Snub Pollard is a great inventor showing off his amazing talents in  “It’s A Gift”   (1923)
 Harold Lloyd rises to new heights to save his lady love but is  “High And Dizzy”   (1920)
 Laurel and Hardy seem to have a problem with goat-attraction in “Angora Love”  (1929)
NOTE: many of the shorts will feature LIVE keyboard accompaniment by our own Joan Chrislip and Don Hurd!
Driving directions that will lead you to our April 14 meeting:

Traveling from the north, going south on I-75:
1. Drive into Cincinnati and get off at exit 6 (Mitchell Avenue/St. Bernard). 
2. Make a right off the exit and immediately get into the far left lane. 
3. At the first signal (Kenard) make a left. 
4. Pass the Kroger on your right, and when this road ends, make a left onto Clifton Avenue. 
5. Travel 1.5 miles up the Clifton Avenue hill and make a left at Loraine Avenue (if you cross Ludlow Avenue you have gone too far!). 
6. Go 0.2 miles on Loraine and then make a slight right onto Brookline Drive. 
7. Go 0.2 miles on Brookline and then turn right on Ludlow Avenue. 
8. The Lodge will be on the right side of the street; turn into driveway just before the Lodge to get to parking area in rear of building.

Traveling from the south, going north on I-75:
1. Drive over the Ohio River into Ohio and get in left lane. 
2. Take exit 3 (Hopple Street) exit, which is ON THE LEFT. 
3. At signal at end of ramp make a left onto Hopple Street/US-52. 
4. Stay straight on this road, which, after the first signal, turns into Martin Luther King Drive West. 
5. Go about 0.5 miles and then make a left onto Dixmyth Avenue. 
6. When Dixmyth ends, make the left onto Clifton Avenue. 
7. Go 0.2 miles down Clifton Avenue and then make a right onto Ludlow Avenue. 
8. The Lodge will be on your left; take driveway to the right of the Lodge to get to rear parking area.

Traveling from the north, going south on I-71:
1. Drive into Cincinnati and take exit 3 toward Taft Road. 
2. Turn slight right onto William Howard Taft Rd and continue 0.5 miles until Reading Rd/US-42. 
3. Make a right onto Reading Road and go another 0.6 miles where you’ll turn left onto Martin Luther King Drive East. 
4. Go 0.2 miles and make a right onto Vine Street. 
5.  At the first signal on Vine, make the left onto West Nixon Street. 
6. Follow Nixon St for about 0.4-0.5 miles as it turns slight right and becomes Jefferson Ave, which then becomes Ludlow Avenue. 
7. The Lodge will be on the right side of the street; turn into driveway just before the Lodge to get to parking area in rear of building.

Traveling from the south, going north on I-71 (I-471):
1.  Drive north on I-471 and cross over the Ohio RIver into Cincinnati, Ohio. 
2. Merge onto I-71 North via the exit on the left. Immediately take the Reading Rd/US-42/Florence Avenue exit, exit 2, on the left. 
3.  Keep left at the fork in the ramp. 
4. Turn slight right and go onto Reading Road/US-42 North for about 1.3 miles and then turn left on Martin Luther King Drive East for another 0.6miles. 
5. Turn right onto Vine Street. 
6.  At the first signal on Vine, make the left onto West Nixon Street. 
7. Follow Nixon Street for about 0.4-0.5 miles as it turns slight right and becomes Jefferson Avenue, which then becomes Ludlow Avenue. 
8. The Lodge will be on the right side of the street; turn into driveway just before the Lodge to get to parking area in rear of building.

Now, THAT’S entertainment!  [Seasons Retirement Community auditorium in (Kenwood) Cincinnati]

August 18: Sand Ho! Be sure to bring plenty of water and your pith helmet as we solve the riddle of the sands and bring you searing selections such as Charley Chase’s “Arabian Tights”, Our Gang’s “Aladdin’s Lamp”, and Laurel and Hardy in BOTH “Beau Hunks” AND “Flying Deuces”! [Seasons Retirement Community auditorium in (Kenwood) Cincinnati]

October 20: healthcare! Lift your body and mind back to good health  as we review how to keep fit with Laurel and Hardy’s “Leave ‘Em Laughing”, “County Hospital” and “Thicker Than Water”. Plus lots of surprise film shorts and the ‘fabulous’ raffle! [at Seasons Retirement Community auditorium in (Kenwood) Cincinnati]

December 15: FIN! - our tribute of Jimmy Finlayson featuring his appearances in Our Gang’s “Mush And Milk”, Charley Chase’s “The Hasty Marriage”, and of course Laurel and Hardy’s “Do Detectives Think?”, “Another Fine Mess”, and “Chickens Come Home”! [at the E.T. Carson Masonic Lodge in (Clifton) Cincinnati]
