GCDD Disability Day ‘09
GCDD Disability Day ‘09
Each winter the Georgia’s Council on Developmental Disabilities invites people with disabilities, family members, policy makers, business leaders, and providers to gather at the Capitol in celebration of community, advocacy, friendship, and achievement. Disability Day at the Capitol 2008 witnessed over 1,000 people brave the rain to rally, meet with legislators, and gather in fellowship.
Disability affects 1 in every 5 Georgians. This annual rally is held to promote meaningful community living for Georgians with disabilities and their families. Among others, legislators are now considering issues such as Unlock the Waiting List, a proposal to offer more services more quickly for 6,500 who wait for support to allow them to live and thrive in their communities.
This Event is the largest one day gathering held annually at the State Capitol during the official legislative session. Since the event’s inception, it has become an inclusive event, attracting a broad cross section of Georgians of all ages with and without disabilities.
This year’s event will take place on the Capitol Steps, Wednesday, February 25, 2009. For more information email William McKeen, wimckeen@dhr.state.ga.us.
