Baren Exchange 37A Spoiler
This print was made from four carved cherry blocks and hand printed on kitakata paper with a ball bearing baren and a wooden knob. The theme for this particular exchange is “Journeys”. The shapes in the woodgrain suggested some of the shapes in this print which is titled “Journey from Maya”. The above image wasn’t scanned but is a digital photo which looks distorted because of the angle. 32 prints were made. The darkest blue took several inkings. The yellow printed easily, with no further inkings needed to bring out the brilliance. The blues were slightly muted so that the yellow would appear more intense. Also, the dull natural color of the paper made the yellow pop the way I’d hoped.
The nice thing about summer is working on the screened-in back porch. All the songs and fragrances of summer are just beyond the screen and there’s plenty of room to set up with three tables.
