Amazed . . .
. . . at the lines for voting this morning. (In a good way!)
In the years past - I have voted first thing in the morning - right at six a.m. - when the polls open, & I have been able to walk right in. This year . . . an hour wait . . . just to get to the front doorway.
Amazing.
We Americans are not always the best in queuing . . we want things fast (okay sometimes instantly) . . & having to wait in a line is not what most consider a good use of time. (We can be so arrogant this way!) But I must admit - that while no one in our line was thrilled with having to do so - it was neat to see that so many showed up this time around. Finally, Americans are waking up a little & becoming passionate about what they believe & what we value. Given - we are a nation that is pretty much evenly split over what we believe & stand for. . . but in line, this morning, it was actually neat to see that the division over ideals & values wasn’t a part of the morning (thank goodness. . . after a year of all the “talking” & finger pointing”!). No, this morning it became about what we, as Americans so often take for granted. . . .
. . . Our Privilege . . . to vote & choose our next President (& others!).
Maybe the long lines, the time we had to invest. . . to exercise such a privilege, helped remind us of how precious & important it really is.
In America, we don’t get our thumb dipped in ink . . to represent that were able to (& did) vote. . . but we do get a sticker.
“I Voted”
A simple little statement . . . but a potentially world changing one.
How cool it will be. . . to see all the stickers being worn today. It’s such a simple little thing. . .
. . . but it means so much!
