Fiona Place’s novel Cardboard: a woman left for dead was originally published by Local Consumption Publications. Still considered an outstanding example of its genre it is now available in the United States.

Fiona has worked as a financial commentator for various fund managers and major newspapers. The focus of her weekly column Debt and Equity to make investment and economic concepts accessible to the general reader.

Today she combines motherhood with her work as a writer and an advocate for children with intellectual disabilities. Her essays on motherhood, genetics and disability appearing in peer-reviewed journals.

Awards


Cardboard won the National Book Council New Writer's Award in 1990. In 1992 Fiona was awarded the NSW Ministry for the Arts Writer's Fellowship. She has also received several grants from the Literature Board of the Australia Council and in 1993 was a resident at the Keesing Studio, Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris.
