Surprise Peruvian Birthday Party!!!

January 17th was my 29th birthday!! It just so happened that on that day we had plans to visit some of our Peruvian friends with Larry and Vicki. This family (to make a long story short) has a daughter named Julie who lives four houses down from Larry and Vicki. We met her family when she was back in Perú visiting. This family could not be sweeter, and somehow they found out that it was my birthday, so next thing I knew a cake was brought out with candles and my name on it. It was an incredible surprise, and I was so thankful. In addition to the cake, the food was AMAZING. This lady could open a restaurant it and would be packed every day. We Love When Family Comes to Town!

January was special for us, because Tara’s parents (Larry & Vicki McWilliams) and sister and brother-in-law came all the way down from Texas to Lima in order to visit their new grandson/nephew. Vicki actually stayed three weeks in the country and the rest of the group joined her on the third week. Needless to say, we had an absolute blast!! Having Vicki here for three weeks was so special, not only for us as adults, but for our kids. Parker felt so honored to share her room with her Nino, and Kellan was just as happy as a boy can be. Meet Your New Brother Video

I finally got around to making a video of the moment Kellan and Parker met their new brother Kase. It is fun to see how much the kids enjoy their new brother. In fact, weeks have passed from the video and both Kellan and Parker are enamored with Kase. We hope you enjoy the video!

A Day at Angel's House

A soccer player who also works on the street where I live invited me to his house again this past Sunday. It all started when I was having lunch with him and some of this buddies. I was explaining that one of our goals here is to help the poor and those in need in the name of Christ. I told him some areas that we were thinking about getting involved in. He looked at me, and said if you want to see an area that is in need you need to come to my neighborhood. So he invited me to come get to know where he lives. The first week I went with my son Kellan and was struck by what I saw.

Angel has been living in his home for 10 years, and has worked hard to make it nice. The area in which he lives, however, does not have electricity or running water. He lives on the side of a hill and right now is working on building a retaining wall to prevent mud-slides. This past week I went with my Wes, my father-in-law (Larry McWilliams), and my brother-in-law (Nathan Francis) and again was greatly encouraged by his hospitality. Here are some pictures of his neighborhood.

Angle is a hard worker, and is doing all he can, with the resources he has to make things better. I am going to explore possibilities of joining with him in doing some developmental projects in his neighborhood.

Bible Study Moves to Heli's House

Heli, Justin Thompson, and I meet to study the Bible and pray every Tuesday. Usually we meet at my house, but for the past couple of weeks we have met over in his neighborhood. He lives about 30 minutes from us by car in what could be called a rougher part of town. We are excited about this decision for two reasons, first it gives him more ownership of the study, and second this is the next step in him beginning his own study with his neighbors. We are in the process of teaching him to teach. We are currently in the middle of a study on the book of Mark and we are exploring the question "Who is Jesus?"

We are seeing God mature his heart every week. I remember the first couple weeks we met he was afraid to pray and had to use a cheat sheet to get the words across, but this past week he belted out a beautiful prayer and I felt privileged to witness God maturing his heart. The 2009 Christmas GiveAway

A week or so before Christmas, the Fletcher family called us up with an idea to buy a whole bunch of gifts, wrap them up, put them in the car, and drive around giving them to those in need on the Eve of Christmas. It was a success and something we hope to do annually. Next year, we hope to buy more gifts to give to more people. One of the highlights for me was seeing Kellan and Parker receive joy by giving something away during the Christmas season. We hope you enjoyed the video.
