An amazing Sister, Mother, Aunt, Cousin, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend Marion Rank will be celebrated by her family this weekend. The girls and I will not be making the journey, but our hearts are there. Hayden picked the above photo because Great Grandmommy Rank is wearing her favorite color, purple. She explained “I know that we are related, she had a purple bedroom and she and I both love purple”. I love my children’s outlook on the world.
Originally when we talked about Great Grandmom Rank Hayden said (without any prompting or guidance) that “Great Grandmommy is a fairy angel, watching out over Aunt Nancy and Grandmommy. She gets to be with flowers and birds and all the animals she wants.” Every time I read this I tear up because Hayden is RIGHT!
I am happy to have known her. I keep her counsel close to my heart and mind. I couldn’t ask for a better family to join. Last Christmas, as we spent time together at Nancy’s, she looked over the group of people she and Granddad had created and was so proud!
I know that she would agree with me about this; A funeral is an opportunity. A chance for all the people who loved and knew her to celebrate everything she blessed us with. It is an opportunity to be with your family. You can’t pick them, change them or ignore them. You can learn from them, appreciate them and love them. Be close, take the opportunity of being together and solidify those relationships. That more than anything is what she would want. The world is a big place, taking us all far and wide. Family is the support and strength that made the journey possible! Love to everyone and see you at Christmas.
