Week of Prayer for Christian Unity - 2009

The week of January 18 - 25 marks the annual interdenominational week of prayer for christian unity. This years schedule can be found on our web site and following the passage of Ezekiel 37: 15-28 we encourage anyone that can attend one or more of the times to do so. United under one Gospel, under on God, and under one saviour we as the larger church unfettered by denominational distinctives are called to love one another and to support one another in the work of God in this time and this place united under truth to the Glory of the one true God!

The beginning is finally here!

Yes it is true! We have begun our series on the book of ‘beginnings’, the book of Genesis. Last week Earl Fast took us through a introduction to the book, it’s major themes, it’s context (author and intended audience) and a quick look at the foundational verse of all of scripture and how it lays as the root of a ‘Biblical world view’ Genesis 1:1. Please come and join us as we take a long, intentional, look into this book of Moses and discover the works of the creator of all things.

Wednesday Evening Vintage Jesus!

Starting on Wednesday October 8th we are inviting all current community groups to gather together at the Abbotsford Seniors Association ‘drop in center’ as one larger community to start a 12 session ‘small’ group study on the person and work of Jesus Christ. This course is based on a 12 part DVD curriculum presented by Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle Washington. The cost will be $10 (cost of the study guide) and will include a time of discussion based on the material of each lesson as well as a time for sharing and prayer.
Location: Abbotsford Seniors Association ‘drop in center’
Date: October 8th, 22nd (more TBA)
Time: 7:15 - 8:45

Small Groups At The City Church

As we as a church move out of the summer and into the ‘new year’ we are looking at making a few changes, challenges and adjustments. We will be rolling these out to you as they pass through the proper time of discussion, prayer and approval but in the mean time I would encourage everyone to prayerfully consider their true intentions, longings, and purposes for being a part of this church and community. Our desire is that you first and foremost are desiring for a growing and active (redeeming, and sanctifying) relationship with Jesus Christ as the representative of ultimate reality and the true and only one way (door, gate, path) to salvation and eternity (life) with God Himself. One of the ways that this is modeled and commanded to work out is in community. Below is a link to an article by John Piper as he outlines small groups, their makeup, their purpose... Please take the time to read it and consider it’s challenges in view of your walk with Christ and with sharing life with other in community.
