So...please visit our new blog at:
http://web.me.com/dbthree/The_Barber_Family/Blog/Blog.html

Remember to change your bookmarks and blog reader entries, too!

I don’t know if you are Law & Order fans, but last week’s episode was intriguing. Many of you may not know (due to not being on facebook where you can see my status updates) that I have begun to teach a Sunday school class on the book of Revelation; we are spending about one week on each chapter. It is providential that such an episode appear on TV this week!

The episode is based around a popular theory of the end times (though it is not what I personally believe the Bible teaches): there will be a secret “rapture” or gathering of Christians to Christ in the clouds, while unbelievers are left on earth for 7 years of “great tribulation.” After this, there is armageddon, the war where Christ deals the final blow to Satan and all his followers and casts them into hell.

Based on the above theological timeline, some have undertaken the task of trying to leave a witness to their friends and loved ones in the event they are taken away in the rapture. One such service today is a website: www.youvebeenleftbehind.com. I won’t give away all the details here, but it is the basic premise of the site on which this last episode of Law & Order is based: an email service which monitors for the rapture, and in event the computer thinks it has taken place, sends out evangelistic emails—though the email content can be anything the subscriber specifies—to the people you have specified who have been “left behind.”

I can’t begin to tell you how popular this theology is among the church today—yours and mine. I touched on this last week in Sunday school, and there is more to say than I have time to say right now. So let me just put a seed in your mind for your own consideration: this theological viewpoint has only been around since 1830; no one in the early church believed it. There is much more to the explanation of why I don’t believe the Bible teaches this perspective on the end times than there is space here to articulate. But if you get a chance to watch the episode it provides a fascinating look from the outside in at what many Christians believe.

Of course, I never thought I would do something like that on a holiday. But when you have the ring in hand, you don’t want to wait!

I took her to Fleming’s Steakhouse, and then I proposed later that night at her house. For those of you who have never been, it is quite simply the best steaks we have ever had—period. We have had a good number of steaks, even ones more expensive, and they just don’t hold a candle to Fleming’s.

Even better, Fleming’s carries Italian wines like Nozzole, which was one of our favorites in Italy on our honeymoon. We like to finish off the night with their signature Lava Cake (above), which comes with fantastic vanilla ice cream and chantilly cream. Fabulous!

It was a great time and we can’t believe it has been three years! Love you, baby! I pray there are many more years to come.
