Next Stop: Atlanta, Georgia

As we settle into our new home in Atlanta, we hope to stay in touch with our friends and family back in Florida and elsewhere around the world. We won't be here quite as long as we expected now that David is pursuing the coursework option at Georgia Tech, but we are trying to make the most of our short time here in Georgia. Next August (2010) David will have completed his master’s degree in computer and electrical engineering and we'll be moving again--this time with Baby Johnson in tow!

Feel free to read our updates and browse our photos, and be sure to stop by and visit us if you find yourself in Atlanta!
David’s mom, Beckie, is here, and we’re all still waiting on Seth to make his appearance. I had some contractions for a few hours Tuesday night but they never progressed, so I guess Seth is going to make us wait a little bit longer. Today I had my weekly doctor appointment but there’s nothing really new to report. Sunday’s my due date, and as long as everything continues to look normal, they will let me go about a week or so past my due date before they’d want to induce. But we’re hoping I go into labor on my own before that.

In the meantime, Beckie and I have enjoyed spending time together and doing various things. We went to the Botanical Gardens yesterday and walked around. Winter is not the prettiest time to go since not much is in bloom, but at least it was a nice day to get outside. We’ve also done some shopping and cooking together and are half-way through the Pride and Prejudice mini-series. Fun stuff....

Tonight Beckie made Beef Noodle soup for dinner and it smells so good. David gets home in a half hour and then we’ll eat dinner together. We’ll have to see how things go and what we end up doing with our weekend....we may end up with more free time on our hands than we originally anticipated. We’ll try to keep you all updated if I go into labor anytime soon. :)

We had our hospital tour last night, so we know a little more about what to expect and where to go. The Dekalb Medical Center has a recently added Women’s Center which looks nice and new inside. Because of swine flu concerns, we only got a virtual tour, but the labor and delivery rooms look comfortable and pretty spacious, especially considering only up to two additional people are allowed in the room.

This week I was thrown two other baby showers: one with the ladies from my Tuesday morning bible study (a joint shower with another lady who’s due a few weeks after me) and one with the ladies at the Pregnancy Center where I volunteer. Both parties were so sweet, and I am overwhelmed at the amount of baby gifts we have received. People have been so generous...

This Sunday afternoon David’s mom flies into town. She was able to change her ticket, so she’s arriving a week earlier than we originally planned. Hopefully now I don’t end up being late now that we changed her ticket! Fortunately though, she’ll be with us until March 6, so she won’t miss the baby either way it goes.

This Sunday evening I also have an orchestra concert, assuming I don’t go into labor before then. It’ll be my last concert before taking a break, probably for good.

We moved our bed and nightstands over to make room for the play-pen, so Seth will be nice and close by when I need to feed him in the middle of the night. It’s nice to have everything ready! My doctors continue to say that it looks like I’ll go into labor before I reach my due date, so we’re getting excited that it could be any day now! We may have a January instead of a February baby...

David didn’t have classes because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so we decided to take the 1 1/2 hour drive to this state park in north Georgia. It was beautiful! We decided against the 8.5 mile hike, figuring it wouldn’t be a great idea for me to go into labor out in the middle of nowhere, but we did take the long staircase down to the bottom of the falls. Way more steps than I want to see again for awhile, but it was worth it for the view. This place would be even more beautiful in the fall, when all the leaves have changed colors. I guess we’ll miss out on that, but maybe we’ll have to re-visit Amicalola Falls in the spring or summer and take advantage of the campgrounds or cabins and do some hiking. There’s also a lodge and restaurant in the park that overlooks the valley and mountains that looks like a nice place to stay. I posted some more of our photos here.

I feel like this is the month I’ve grown the most...there’s a big difference between the photos from this month and last month. In case you’re wondering why I’m considering myself at 37 weeks instead of 36, it’s because my due date changed mid-way through my pregnancy, hence the week discrepancy. But with my due date being February 7th, Seth is full-term today!

As of tomorrow (not in another week, like I mistakenly said before), I will be 37 weeks and considered full-term! This means that even though I am expected to deliver closer to 40 weeks, if I do go into labor, the doctors won’t do anything to stop it and Seth wouldn’t be considered premature. At my last appointment, my doctor said she didn’t expect that I’d go past my due date of February 7th, so we’ll see....

This weekend David and I are planning to get the last things done on our to-do list before Seth comes. Most importantly, we still have to buy a car seat since the last time we looked at Target the one we wanted was all banged up. We also need to decide on a pediatrician. David will probably set up the changing table and play pen (with the bassinet attachment) in our room and maybe I’ll start throwing some things together for my hospital bag.

One prayer request we have is that David won’t have to miss many classes when I go into labor, and especially that he wouldn’t miss any important quizzes or tests. Since he has class every day of the week this semester, we’re really hoping for a weekend! February 6th or 7th would be ideal. But we’re glad we can trust that it’s all in God’s hands.

Look for the latest picture of my pregnant belly tomorrow...
So this is what it looked like outside our apartment all day today! It was a chilly 15 degrees when we woke up. I went outside to sweep outside our front door and take this photo, and then quickly scooted back inside! It was too cold for me to spend much time outside, though it seemed like a shame since it was such a pretty day with the sun shining.

Unfortunately, our dinner plans were canceled for tonight. The Ortons were planning on coming over, but after looking at the iced-over roads, they wisely reconsidered making the drive out here in the dark. Hopefully we’ll be able to reschedule for another time.

As of tomorrow, I have only four weeks left until my due date (and in two, I’ll be considered full term)! Beckie will be flying here from Taiwan on February 7th, and staying for a nice long while. Long enough to ensure she won’t miss the baby! We’re so glad she’s able to come here and help out.

Lately I’ve had lots of vivid and sometimes funny dreams about labor and babies. Apparently I’m not the only one. Tara told me that she dreamt that after going into labor and having Seth, I immediately got pregnant and had another boy the next day. Then the third boy came along a day or two later, who turned out to be the cutest and Tara’s admitted favorite. Haha, gave me a good laugh. (Let’s hope Tara’s content with just one nephew to start)
