DAVID NELSON
David Nelson was born during the Summer of Love and a slew of inner city race riots. He started making movies with his father’s super-8 camera in the heart of Brooklyn at the age of ten and was later admitted into NYU Film School on a scholarship. He recently completed helming the family-comedy LIKE MIKE 2 for 20th Century Fox. He wrote and directed the pilot episode of Spike TV’s animated series, ZILCH AND ZERO, starring John Leguizamo and John Cho.
He has worked with actor, John Leguizamo, writing and directing a series of comedy sketches for NBC’s NEW YORK MAGAZINE AWARDS and the YAHOO INTERNET ON-LINE MUSIC AWARDS.
Starting his directing career in the world of music videos, his work is featured on MTV, B.E.T. and VH1 and he has been nominated for prestigious MTV, BILLBOARD, B.E.T. and SOURCE MAGAZINE awards. He has worked with virtually every major Record Label and has directed some of the biggest recording artists working in music today.
In addition, Nelson has served as Producer on NAKED STATES and NAKED WORLD two critically acclaimed HBO documentaries. He made his documentary directing debut with the Hugo Humanitarian Award winning, POSITIVELY NAKED for HBO.
Nelson began his career as an assistant editor for Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks and went on to become the Post-Production Supervisor for Marcus Nispel’s lucrative New York based commercial/music video production company Portfolio Artist Network. After that he embarked on his own directing career. Some of his other interests include cooking, martial arts, magic-realism, strong coffee and good stories well told.
