Navigating the Genealogy

A Contents List follows the introduction. It contains links to Index pages, Surname pages, and Source pages.

The Index pages show the names of all persons on this Web site, arranged in alphabetical order by surname and then by given name. All of the Cushmans are listed under “C”.

The Surnames page lists the surnames on the site (without first names).

Selecting a name from the Index will take you to information about the family for that person.  It shows the person, their spouse (if any), parents of the person and spouse (if any), and children (if any).  Clicking on the link for the person or their spouse will take you to a "person sheet" for that person, which will display information in the database for that person.

Small numbers marked as hyperlinks are Source references -- clicking on these hyperlinks will take you to the appropriate location on the Sources page, and give you more information on that source or citation.

Sources of Information

The database contains information from several major sources:

1. My pedigree, which was carefully prepared by my father before his death, in 1994.
   

1. Henry Wyles Cushman's book "A Historical and Biographical Genealogy of the Cushmans:  The Descendants of Robert Cushman the Puritan, From the Year 1617 to 1855".1  The book is fairly complete through eight generations, counting Robert Cushman of Kent as generation #1. Henry Wyles Cushman also included Cushmans from the ninth and tenth generation who were living circa 1850, but this does not include many people.
   

1. Alvah Walford Burt's "Cushman Genealogy & General History, Including the Descendants of the Fayette County Pennsylvania and Monongalia County Virginia Families.2
   

1. James Augustine Cushman's "The First Seven Generations of the Cushman Family in New England.3  This book is largely based upon the work of Henry Wyles Cushman (see above) but contains much better documentation and reference to actual vital records.
   

1. The  contributions of many Cushmans I have met along the way.
