Corrugated ribbing for Donegal

Corrugated ribbing is very slow. I’ve been feeling on and off sick these last few weeks, so I’m tending to nap for a hour or two rather than knit. Seeing the effect of the pattern repeats is going to be exciting. The bit of green is already turning out to be more prominent that I thought.

The Selbuvotter book finally appeared at the LYS. I’ve just started reading through it. Selbu gloves make great gifts since they take less time to knit than socks! My mom still has a couple of pairs from me.

I really have to stop staring at Destash!. No matter what time of day it is, someone’s posting or updating something on the site. It’s interesting to see what a wide range of stuff people are trying to get rid of, from fuzzy novelties to old Starmore yarn. While other people are happy to swap/sell yarn with abandon, I have a really hard time purging the stash: lots of yarn with no project attached.

Donegal swatch

After spending a couple hours at the local biergarten, the swatch for Donegal gave a idea of what the colors might look like. I chose the colors loosely based on the photos in the book, what the original Rowan shades might have looked like, and a bit of whimsy. When I showed it to DH, he remarked that it needed something bright, “like yellow”! The grey stripe running straight through the center is not ideal, but it’s probably OK as only one row. It’s really a shame that many of J&S’ endangered shades are the subtle heathers for which J&S is known.

For more other projects, I’m staying to the tried and true colors. Like Marina. Again, about half the shades are on J&S’ endangered list. My other projects (Russian River, Cats and Mice, Fish and Anchors) still need Jamieson skeins to complete the yarn packs.

Have I given Abalone to the chocolab? He’d can lie on it occasionally, but no clawing at it into a dog’s nest, which he does to the guest bed all the best.

Abalone finished but claspless

Abalone is finished. The interior overcast stitching was completed first because for a while surgery was actually an option (cutting and grafting out a repeat at the bottom). Because of the loose fit, I think that Abalone looks better in a longer length. I decided not to give Abalone buttonholes, and instead will buy clasps for it (Junieann was my inspiration).

Donegal is waiting in the wings. The earth color version in the Celtic Collection appealed to me so I selected the colors from the book and from yarn charts here and there. Swatching away....

A big project has been sewing new curtains for our bedroom. One set down, one to go. After four years in our house, the summer morning light streaming into the room started to get on my nerves.

Started in on another pair of socks in Claudia’s Hand Painted Yarn. The colors are really rich. A crazy guy on the BART train tried to buy these socks from me, even after I explained that this was the first sock of the pair.
