Commonplace Holiness:
Sexuality Issues

It is vitally important for partisans on both sides of the Homosexuality Controversy to commit themselves to truth telling.
A thing is not “true” because it fits with my overall point of view. In fact, if it doesn’t seem to fit, maybe I should give that datum a little more consideration. Do not write off uncomfortable information just because it doesn’t fit. And, do not be too quick to embrace ideas & claims, just because they do fit. Much that is said on both sides reads to me like overstatement, misrepresentation and falsehood. And, that cannot be tolerated, regardless of the goal. Obviously, there’s some disagreement over what is “true’ and what isn’t. Okay, fine. Whatever. But, at least we can be committed to truth telling within the limitations of our own ability to discern what the “truth” is. And, we could be open about what the foundation of our truth-claims are, so that our listeners can decide for themselves how they want to evaluate that.
In that regard, I have long appreciated Dr. Warren Throckmorton’s writings and blog. Throckmorton is a conservative, Side B Christian psychologist who openly challenges both the claims of reparative therapists and the bogus research of Paul and Kirk Cameron.
Most recently he has posted a link to a study by Danish epidemiologist, Morten Frisch on the truth about life expectancies among Danish gays in same-sex marriages. You will also find links in that post to Dr. Throckmorton’s previous rebuttals of the Cameron’s work.
I commend Dr. Throckmorton for his work and for his honesty.
I would also recommend Jim Burroway’s lengthy rebuttals of the Paul Cameron tracts. Yes, I know, Box Turtle Bulletin is a gay-activist site. But, Jim is also an admirably honest guy. If you’ve ever encountered the Cameron articles, and wondered about them, please take a look at Jim’s rebuttal. He’s telling you the truth. The Cameron articles are bogus science & not to be trusted.
We cannot move forward in dialogue and discernment without a common commitment to truth telling.

My own lengthy position paper on the Homosexuality Issue can be found here. There are many, many more sites and articles listed on the Sexuality Issues page.
