A new term, new undergrad researchers

Brian Gress has returned for another semester of research. After mastering the dissection of dead insects, he’s moved on to working with live animals. Abby Neyer has taken up the tree weta mantle and is investigating reproductive investment by immune challenged females in that lovely beast.

Brian Gress and Eric Schroder, both ISU undergrads, have joined the lab to work on tree weta ecoimmunology and sexual selection in New Zealand stick insects, respectively.

A paper by Mike Jennions and I was recently published in Physiological Entomology. We show that, opposite to prediction, male tree weta have a greater melanotic response to an immune challenge than females.
