Military Working Dogs have played a vital role in our nation's history from world war two to present. During the Vietnam War canine soldiers and their handlers are estimated to have prevented as many as 10,000 deaths. Up until 2000 these dogs were euthanized at the end of their service. These are highly trained four footed soldiers with duties such as Sentries, Scout, Booby Trap, Tunnel, Mine and Tracker.

In 200o public law 106-446 was passed allowing the adoption of DoD canines.

Punish the Deed Not the Breed sign the petition

CURRENTLY, the state law in Florida PROHIBITS municipalities
from passing Breed Specific Legislation (B.S.L)

HOWEVER…

The following bills are being proposed this legislative session, and if either one passes, Breed Specific Legislation will be allowed STATE WIDE!

HB189 “Dangerous Dogs” Proposed by State Representative Perry E. Thurston, Jr. Eliminates prohibition of breed specific local government regulation of dangerous dogs. (Effective July 1, 2009)

SB 922 “Dangerous Dogs” Proposed by Senator Anthony C. “Tony” Hill Sr.
Eliminates prohibition of breed specific local government regulation of dangerous dogs. (Effective July 1, 2009)

This means that if EITHER of these laws is passed,
ALL local cities within the state of Florida will have the power to ban
ANY breed of dog they feel is a threat. That could mean YOUR dog.

It is up to EVERY dog owner to make our Florida Representatives and the Governor aware that we should NOT punish responsible dog owners and innocent animals.

Existing non-breed specific legislation ALREADY EXISTS, and offers promise for the prevention of dog bites. We must encourage law makers to enforce laws already on the books and to punish IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS!!

Write, Call, Fax, E-mail your local and state representatives
to fight AGAINST passing HB 189 & SB 922!!!
