Post 7507 In Action

Members of Veteran’s organizations are familiar with the MIA/POW Table, honoring their missing comrades, but most other people in our country are not at all aware.  Most are amazed to learn that there are 88,00 military personnel listed as prisoners or missing in action dating back to World War II. On Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, a new state law

On Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, a new state law  requiring  the POW-MIA flag to fly over every town and city hall, Superior Court building and county office in the state of Arizona.

In honor of the new law, Post 7507 presented the Town of Fountain Hills with a POW-MIA Flag to be flown at Town Hall.  Just prior to  the Town Council meeting on August 5th, council members and veterans gathered in the Town Hall lobby for a ceremony where Commander John Pletz explained the  significance of the Table Set For One and all of the items that lie on that table.

Please note that we have a page on this website devoted to that ceremony.

88,000 families sent their loved one off to war and never saw them again, what an enormous  price was paid and no American should forget them.

Having learned of the MIA/POW table, the owners of the Fireside Grille in Fountain Hills wanted to do something to

build community awareness of those who remain missing.

They decided to set up a table in their lounge area.  Dennis Cortino and John Pletz helped them put it together properly.

On August 18th, 2010, members of all the local veterans

organizations as well as the community were invited to a

special event where the Table was explained by Commander, John Pletz. Many in attendance were moved to tears as he spoke.

State leaders from the American Legion and Am Vets shared in the presentation, as did the city’s Mayor.

Owner of the Fireside Grille provided free appetizers and

drink specials.  Live music included several patriotic songs

that inspired many to hold hands and sing along.

Note of gratitude to the owners and managers at the Fireside Grille.  Because of their action, the people who walk thru their doors will be reminded of those 88,000 brothers and sisters who failed to come home.

THIS WAS A CO OPERATIVE EVENT THAT BROUGHT TOGETHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS OTHER VETERAN’S ORGANIZATIONS ... HERE ARE A FEW SHOTS OF  THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY AND THE AM VETS WHO ENJOYED THIS EVENING TOGETHER.

The Freedom Series. What is it? The premise is simple says, Town Manager, Rick Davis. We want to provide a forum in which the community can celebrate the contributions of extraordinary Americans and learn from their experiences. We desire to instill in all of us a bit more of the appreciation that we should feel to be Americans.

We are all very proud that the first presentations in the Freedom Series featured two of our Post 7507 members.
