Episode Eight: Back to The Java Creek Café in the Cherry Creek shopping district of Denver, Colorado. It's here that disaster struck last time, remember? Not tonight.............all gear present and accounted for, sir! What a great wealth of talent Denver has! You can find it especially in the coffee bars on open mic night. Tonight our intrepid host, Jay Fowler, has arrived despite some personal challenges. Thank you Jay for your sacrifices on our account. I still haven't found the right mic for a distortion free evening, but I have hope that my next choice will whip that ol' Mr. Distorto at any volume level. Oh, but I digress. Tonight marks the first time 'The Open Mic Diary' has captured a poet for your listening and pondering pleasure. Brian Morton is outstanding! There was a young lady from........................ no, not that kind of poetry; real from-the-heart, flights-of-fancy stuff. Well done Brian. We hope our dear friends in Pennsylvania and everyone wherever you are will enjoy this latest offering of 'The Open Mic Diary'. Please leave a comment, god or bad, below. We need more comments. The Open Mic Diary: Episode Seven

Episode Seven: Wow, it's been three months. Were you wondering what happened to me? No? Oh, well. A new venue with a lot of new artists to see and hear but the same old problems; namely distortion and I forgot to bring the flippin' flappin' power adapter for the laptop. As a result, I could only capture five of the ten amazing artists at the Java Creek Café on Friday night Febuary 23, 2007. Jay Fowler, the kind and ever so competent host of this open mic has allowed me to return on March 30 to try again. Thanks, Jay and sorry for the technical problems. I even went so far as to walk over to the Apple store in the Cherry Creek Mall across the way to purchase another power adapter and .......What? ......you don't have one? ....your OUT?!
There is still much to enjoy; so, enjoy and I'll see you by and by .............................................................

The Open Mic Diary: Episode Six

Episode Six, can you believe it? Here we are at Common Grounds again and thank you Matt for all of the kind words for ‘The Open Mic Diary’. Man, after Noel and I had some of the best pizza in the world at Pizza Alley (which is just across the street) before the open mic; we thought it was going to be a s-l-o-w night. Suddenly, about 30 minutes into the show, guys with guitar cases in hand began to show up with alarming frequency and poor Matt had to adapt as best as possible to handle the talent. Well, it ended up being a two song set for each participant. This is not-so-good for us, but great for you as you have twice the number of song samples to savor as usual ! The Open Mic Diary: Episode Five

Well, here we all are once again, gathered to view Episode Five of The Open Mic Diary. Welcome and a special howdy to all of you new viewers, happy to have you with us. As you may or may not know, this video podcast is being made to bring people closer to the open mic experience. There are open mics and there are open mics, if you know what I mean. I will endeavor to bring you ones of high quality, and this one is (though I still haven’t licked the audio probs completely) Some odd noises appeared tonight and.........?? It is enjoyable anyway, I feel, and I hope you do (enjoy it, that is). Please buy the artists’ cd’s and go to hear them once in a while; and while there tip them heavily as artists have the same bills to pay as everyone else (my mortgage company will not accept applause in lieu of money) Thank you all and have a very pleasant and productive daylight period.

EPISODE FOUR brings us fully into the world of hardware incompatibility. I tried a different setup which did yield better sound, but also lost a lot of sound.....and video. I’ll probably have to spend more money on some gadget or other; so, PLEASE BUY MY CD’s...........................................
My apologies to all of the excellent performers who either didn’t make it into the podcast at all or had only a limited segment. Don’t worry I’ll get you all eventually. Thanks beaucoup to Matt and his wife and to Common Grounds for having an open mic in the first place and letting me record it in the second place.

The Open Mic Diary: Episode Two

Episode Two finds us at Mile High Coffee (where Cinderella City used to be for those of us who are old enough to know) Steve Jantzen is the host and WOW what a line up of artists. Noel does the opening monologue inspite of my harrassment and all of us have a great time. Open mics are fun and enjoyable, smoke-free and so casual. Denver is a big place so there is no shortage of talent. If you’ve never been to an open mic before, watch this and see what you’ve been missing. Thanks for subscribing and I’ll see you next time.

The Open Mic Diary: Episode One

Well, it’s finally here. The Open Mic Diary’s inaugural run. Wow, it’s a big file, but then it’s an hour of mostly music. My co-podhost, Noel Miller (noelmiller.net) and I hope to use these video podcasts to bring the open mic experience to more people. After a while it begins to feel like a community of singers, songwriters, pickers, live and original music afficionados gathering in total obscurity to share their arts. Enjoy Episode One and remember to support your local artists’ efforts.
