Here at BWN we like to get our hands dirty with more than just exciting and creative ad work. Weekends and after work hours involve more than farmers markets and happy hours.

Periodically, we are going to use the BLOG NOISE to spotlight the extracurricular activities of the peeps involved in making BWN rule. This entry is about me and some of my exploits!!!!

My name is Dan Kramer and I am a sound designer and composer here at BWN. I am also a member of an electro funk band Called ESTATE. You can check out some of our stuff @ http://www.virb.com/estate,
or on myspace @ http://www.myspace.com/thedotcommunists

The video you see embedded above is from a little project we did with our hometown hero friends NOBOT (check em @ http://www.myspace.com/nobot ).

We decided to take a track from each other and remix the snot out of it! Estate chose “UKE Falls” and NOBOT grabbed “Let Her Know”. Both groups had a blast and lived happily ever after!

Later Wigglies,

D_Slam

“Justin to intern: “Put on a suit and be in my band.”

My name is David. I have been “working” here at BWN for about three months as an intern. When I decided to swallow my pride and offer my services for free to a reputable post-production music studio, I had no idea that I would be doing more than getting coffee and re-installing software. I would be doing more indeed. Much more.

You see, several things were not explained to me. My “boss” Justin, never said the words “gig”, “performance”, “learn an entire set in one day from haphazardly typed, error riddled charts that I have created in TextEdit”or anything similar. Nothing was mentioned that would lead me to believe that I would be performing an evening's worth of music on a grand piano in a Los Feliz music venue. I was also unaware that rehearsals for interns occur between the hours of 9pm and 3am the night before the performance.
But what was I to do? If I drop the ball for one second, someone twice my age with half the skill is going to step right in and I'll be forced to find a job that pays.

The gig went well, and even though I'm only an intern, I tickled those ivories—I tickled them real good while dressed in my fancy black suit (Justin just wore regular clothes and a funny hat). The crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves and I don't think anyone there even know that I was interning!

My point is, that's the cold hard path to success. You never know what or who will lead you from one stage of your career to the next. In this case, it's a man who calls himself “Little JJ Fats” (since he's neither little nor fat, I should have been wise to his methods from the start). There are two kinds of people in the world: those who have played a grand
piano in Los Feliz to a crowd of six people, and those who have not. Thanks to BWN and Little JJ Fats, I am now a proud member of the former. “

That is an excerpt fro the forth coming novel by Justin called “If these walls could smoke... The Little JJ Fats Story”. JJ will be appearing at the UCSB Cryptography Conference for a QA , Meet and Greet, and potluck dinner on Nov 42nd at 1 am. A special thanks to David the intern for sharing his adventures with all of us,

So, Freddie from Carmichael Lynch called me up a few weeks ago with these rad spots for Harley Davidson with huge ass weightlifters and shit. They were looking for a band like Bolt Thrower (omigod) so I called my friend Paulie and asked him for some songs from his new totally scary band Black Anvil. It totally fucking rules. xoxo - Annie

This week we are soooo excited that Justin Asher came flying on a big plane to visit us from Los Angeles. He came back to the mother-ship to recharge at the hive-mind data pool and to pass on his new design for the BWN official uniform (see above). Justin bring up a valuable point about the role of conformity in todays high pressure business world, I could not however remember what he said so it will be lost to the annuals of time. After extensive meeting, Q and A sessions, polls, test groups, arm wrestling matches, first dates, drag races, and some good old fashion pistols at dawn we all agreed that we needed a BWN uniform.

After having my idea shot down....
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

.
.

Carl’s was too practical.....

Annie’s had inherent safety issues due to a lack of eye holes.............

Ken’s was a bit off the mark with his idea but “A” for effort Buddy!!!!!

So after a lot of hard work we decided to go with something a little more conservative but modern and hip............

I’m really pleased with what we came up with and a special thanks to Justin for bringing this subject up to us during his visit to The Minneapolis, The MN.

Till Next Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
