Memorial Day Weekend

Arlington National Cemetery and Luray Caverns.  History lessons in different time scales.

Casualties from the American Revolution -- and all of the subsequent wars -- have been interred at Arlington National Cemetery.  Only one person was buried in Luray Caverns -- a Native American teenage girl.  (They’re not quite sure how she got there.)

We -- and many members of the Rolling Thunder organization --  visited Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday.  No matter how many pictures you’ve seen of this place, I don’t think that you can truly appreciate it until you walk among the more than 300,000 graves.

We -- and a tremendous amount of other tourists -- visited Luray Caverns on Monday.  My clan was not very excited about this little road trip.  But, once we got down into the cave, their attitudes quickly changed.  Honestly, you just can’t go wrong with a geology field trip.
