Welcome to My Site

I am Bobbie Johnson; an outdoor lovin’ Colorado gal, hiker, painter, traveler and wife of my best friend, Mark.

After graduating with a BA in Physical Education from Bridgewater College in Virginia, Bobbie came west seeking adventure.  She spent a fascinating year on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico as a VISTA volunteer before landing a public school teaching position in the small southwestern Colorado town of Montrose.  Living in a valley at the foot of the rugged San Juan Mountains "felt right" and the area has been her home for over  thirty-five years.  Loving "the groove but not a rut" Bobbie has traveled frequently and had numerous career paths including;  school teacher, housekeeper, backcountry wilderness ranger, group leader for the Youth Conservation Corp, pharmacy tech, athletic club assistant manager, personal trainer, and cardiac rehab exercise tech. She also enjoys helping her husband Mark design, build and sell new homes every 2 or 3 years.

It was only in the spring of 2001 that Bobbie discovered watercolors. Mentored by local artist (and former neighbor) Linda Nadel, she continues to refine her style and technique.  In addition to studying under Linda, Bobbie has taken numerous classes and workshops in Montrose and Telluride, Colorado as well as Tucson and Tubac, Arizona.

"Painting is a way of sharing myself and my love for the Southwest.  If I could choose just one occupation for the rest of my life, watercolor artist would be it. Painting inspires my other passions to not only travel but explore the richly diverse and beautiful western backcountry".

Currently Bobbie and her husband, Mark, are at home in Ouray, CO having just completed 18 months of traveling the country in their 5th Wheel.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"The older I get, the more sentimental I become about where I live.  There is artistic inspiration everywhere.  Painting is my way of sharing my passion for the Southwest."  BJ
