Welcome to

the world of

momentum kids

March 14 & 21 will be “Move & Review” Weeks as we transition to the new building. Updates resume Palm Sunday!

Today we finished the God-Force series, and talked about loving god with all of our strength.  That is, working hard for god!  We can work for god when we help at church, like setting up or tearing down the sets, teaching class, leading worship, or cleaning!  People on missions trips use their strength when they build schools and kids that rake leaves to make money for their missions offering are loving god with their strength.  Nehemiah used his strength to help lead the rebuilding of the wall around jerusalem.  Working for God may be hard, sweaty work, but he will give us the strength to do what he puts in our life to do for him.

    Today was also the last

day (Most likely) we will

meet at the theater!  So we

talked about moving, and

everyone got a mini bandana.

sometimes people would tie

snacks in their bandana and

take it as they travel, kinda

like a hobo!  We remembered

that Woody, in the movie Toy

Story, reminded everyone to

find a moving buddy, so we

packed some toy story fruit

snacks just for fun!

The bandanas remind us that we are moving to a new location and a new time in momentum church’s journey, and we can use it to wipe the sweat off our faces when we love god with all our strength!!

February 28, 2010

Back to our God-Force series, and loving God with all of our mind.  Today we talked about “Staying Sharp”, and learning everything we can.  The more we know about God and his creation, the more we love him.  And we talked about the wisest man in the bible, king solomon.  He asked god for wisdom to be able to make good decisions.  We need to make good decisions, too, and god will help us do that, just like he helped solomon.

Everyone took home a balloon sword to help them remember to “Stay Sharp” this week!

We also started videoing our “What makes my family special” segment.  we will post that after we finish next Sunday!

Feb. 21

ATTENTION!!! WE INTERRUPT THIS GOD-FORCE SERIES

FOR A SPECIAL DAY OF “FAIRLY ODD PARENTS”

TODAY WE OPENED OUR CLASSROOMS TO PARENTS SO THEY COULD COME AND SEE SOME OF WHAT GOES ON IN MOMENTUM KIDS EACH WEEK.  SO, IN HONOR OF OUR PARENTS, WE TALKED ABOUT SOME FAIRLY ODD PARENTS IN THE BIBLE. WE USED NOAH FOR EXAMPLE. WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE TO COME HOME FROM SCHOOL AND FIND YOUR DAD BUILDING A HUGE BOAT IN THE FRONT YARD!  AND NO WATER ANY WHERE AROUND!  BUT GOD GAVE NOAH THE WISDOM TO DO WHAT SEEMED ODD, AND SAVE HIS FAMILY!  GOD GIVES PARENTS TODAY WISDOM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS FOR THEIR FAMILY, EVEN IF IT ISN’T WHAT THE KIDS WANT TO DO!

WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF EACH PERSON COULD WAVE A MAGIC WAND AND CHANGE ANY RULE AT HOME OR SCHOOL.  SOME OF THE CHANGES WOULD BE FUN FOR A TIME, BUT MOST HAVE A COST THAT WE DON’T WANT TO PAY!

WE NOW WILL RETURN TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED

PROGRAMMING, AND CONTINUE GOD-FORCE NEXT WEEK!!

February 14, 2010

As we continue our look at the Great Commandment, we talked today about loving God with all of our soul; the part of us that says, “Whoa! God, you are awesome”.  It takes a s-t-r-e-t-c-h sometimes for our minds to understand how really amazing god is. We were reminded of some event in the bible when god showed himself amazing.  Creation, jonah’s saving whale, david killing goliath, & all the miracles that jesus did on earth; feeding 5,000 with one boy’s lunch, walking on water, and turning water into wine.  God truly is awesome!!To remind us of that, everyone took home a stretchy heart.  It’s to remind us to start each day by thinking about how awesome god is, and saying, Whoa! God you are awesome!

February 7, 2010

Since February is the month of love, we decided to look at the great commandment; loving god with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.  And the reason we love god is because he first loved us!  And he loves us so much more than we can even imagine!

Today we talked about loving god

with all of our heart.  when we

give our heart to jesus, he gives

us his heart.  And when we give

all of our heart, completely, for

him to love others through, we

love what he loves and we are

sad at what makes him sad.  it

changes how we look at those around us.

for fun, we are looking at the G-force movie & comparing some of the ways that the characters are similar to us when we love God completely.  What a God-Force we will be showing God’s love to the world when we give our all!

The characters in the movie watch what is happening in the house through Mooch, the fly.  They “See” through his eyes.  When we have a heart like God’s, we will see people through God’s eyes, and treat them like he would.

January 31, 2010

Today we finished out the New year’s series, “I’ve Got a Brand New...” with Brand new feet!  We used the memory verse found in Romans 10:15 “How beautiful are the feet of those that bring good news”!  Everywhere our feet take us, we have the best news there could ever be: Jesus died for us so we can be part of his family forever!  Missionaries feet take them all over this world with that message, and we talked about haiti and the hope they have even in this tragic time.  Many people brought back their haiti zip bags for the kids, and we will continue to collect them for the next 2 weeks, just in case anyone forgot today.

And we took time to back up to last week’s lesson about having new eyes, and did our “Who needs eyes?” game.  What a mess we had!!!

January 24, 2010

Today we continued the “New series” with I’ve Got brand new eyes!  We want to have eyes that see people like jesus does.  Sometimes we judge people by how they look, what they wear, and how they act.  But jesus loves everyone; those who are lonely, those who are sad, and even those who are mean. When we look at those like jesus does, we see past what appears on the outside and look at what they are inside.  They are People that god loves and has a great plan for their lives.  We can be kind to them and share his love with them!

We have a fun time burning some flash paper glasses that represented the “vision” we have sometimes.  Fire in children’s church is always a blast and everyone knows you can’t do this at home!!

Our children’s church has grown tremendously, and we will be looking at some options to incorporated a small group setting into our Sunday mornings.  This will give all the kids more opportunities to be “hands on” with our object lessons, games, etc.  Watch for the new plan and your opportunity to join the momentum kids volunteer team as we expand!!

January 17, 2010

In the last 2 weeks, we have learned how we can have a new heart and a new mouth and today we talked about having a new hand.  This is a hand that does it’s very best at everything it does.  We learned the verse:  “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”  Ecclesiastes 9:10  When we do our best at all that we do, people around us notice.  And when those people know that we are Christ followers, It just lets us bring more praise to him.  We talked about nehemiah and how he worked hard to build the wall.  God honored his work and everyone around knew that god was on nehemiah’s side!

Finally, we talked about the times that we do our best, even when no one is watching.  in those times, God notices!

This is the week to do our very best in all we do!

January 10, 2010

Today’s lesson was a mouth full!  We learned that one part of the new life we have in jesus is a new mouth.  Our verse for today was, “Don’t let any unpleasant talk come out of your mouth but only what is helpful for building others up.” Ephesians 4:29  The bottom line is this:”I control what comes out of my mouth.”  We agreed that this is hard to do sometimes.  And even adults have a hard time not saying unpleasant things.  But we know that God will help us, just like Mr. Dan helped Haley keep those “talking back” words from coming out of her mouth!  And with god’s help, I can do it!!

We said that when we are about to say something  “unpleasant”, like talking back to our parents, aruging with siblings, or saying words we shouldn’t, we will STOP, put our hand over our mouth if we need to, and pray and think of a pleasant way to say what we need to say.

We had some fun playing a

review game & deciding if

we would have trash or

treats coming out of the

Giant mouth!

January 3, 2010

Today we introduced the first lesson of our new series, I’ve Got a brand new...Heart.  Because God gave us the gift of his son at christmas, we have a new life in Christ.  That new life brings a brand new heart. God takes away our old, hard, sinful heart and gives us a new heart like his.  I had to perform emergency surgery to remove a stony heart and replace it with a soft, christ-like heart.  Thanks to Miranda for being our willing patient.  Just like saul was changed when he heard God’s voice on the road to damascus, we can be changed too.  We’re not perfect, but with god’s help, we are becoming more like jesus!

December 20, 2009

So today we finished up the SnoMentum kids series with a visit from santa and a mini blizzard.  First, let me backtrack and fill you in on last week’s lesson with Mrs. Heidi.  She introduced the idea of “Sno little town of bethleheM” and the idea that Jesus, even though he was the king of kings wasn’t born in a palace but in a stable.  And god sent the angels to bring his message to shepherds, just common folks like you and I.  When we see Candy canes, it can remind us of those shepherds and the staff they use to tend sheep.

And since he came, we want to “Sno tell it on the mountain” and let everyone know that jesus loves them!  Tell it everywhere; to everyone; just like the shepherds did when they left the stable after seeing jesus.

This series has been “sno” much fun!  Can’t wait to see everyone in January with something “Brand New”  Watch for details!

December 6, 2009

Frosty the snowman said it well, “Happy Birthday!”  So I decided that He must have been the very first Snomenutm kid celebrating the birth of jesus!  Actually, he wasn’t talking about jesus and I have taken it all out of context, but we did talk today about Christmas being jesus’ “Earthly” birthday, but that he was alive before arriving in  bethlehem.  He had been in heaven with his father.  We learned that Micah told that Bethlehem would be Jesus’ birthplace 700 years before he came.

Our verse for this month is from Luke 2: the angel said to the shepherds “Fear not, for unto you, is born this day, in the city of david, a savior, which is christ the lord.”  This is the greatest announcement that has ever been made on earth!

Christmas is all about gifts.  God’s gift to the world, his son jesus!  The wisemen brought gifts.  And we give gifts today to show our love.  We were reminded that we can only give what belongs to you.  You can’t give away something that is someone else’s.  And we issued a “Snomentum kids Challenge” to give a toy or game (that belongs to you) to another child in need this year.

We had a record breaking number of kids in Momentum kids this morniing & we ran short on the letter for parents explaining the challenge.  You can read a copy of it here from the facebook page

November 29, 2009

The Mega-Challenge ’09 wound down today with a final lesson on obedience using the game “Simon Says”; well, actually, “simon peter says”.  We based our lesson on 1Peter 1:14; and found 2 things that peter said we should do: Think clearly, and obey god.  We obey god when we study his word and do what it says.  Of course, obeying parents is where we should start!

We talked about 2 examples of obedience:

    King Saul:

who lost his job as king because he disobeyed

and the very best example ever of a child obeying:

    Jesus:

He was God, yet he obeyed his earthly parents!

And we ended the morning by giving away all the games that we have used during this series.  Hopefully, we will remember each time we play these games, that just like the instruction or rules of the game make it more fun to play, God’s word is the instructions we need to have the best life ever!!

Novermber 22, 2009

Today was BGMC day in Momentum Kids.  We brought our Barrels of Money and used the game Barrel of monkeys to learn how when link together, we can reach more people with the love of jesus.

Julia shared with us pictures from her mission trip to paraguay.  She answered all our questions about the schools, the kids, and their teeth!! What a great opportunity to hear first hand how missionaries show the love of jesus to the people they visit!!

We studied Romans 10:14, and learned that:

to Believe:      you have to hear

To Hear:     Someone has to preach

To preach:      Someone has to be sent.

When we give to BGMC, we are helping to Send, so that they can preach, so that they can Hear, so they can believe!

November 15, 2009

Sorry!!!!  Well, maybe, maybe not.

That was our point today in momentum kids.

We used the game of sorry to talk about

forgiveness.  We talked about sometimes we

say “i”m sorry” but we really aren’t.  Much

like in the game, we are just saying words,

but we don’t mean them.  When we say I’m

sorry, we should mean it.  And if we mean

it, we don’t continue to do that same

thing over and over again.

The other side of forgiveness is when

someone tells us the are sorry, we should

forgive.  The game of sorry is a game of

revenge.  When we forgive, we don’t look

for a chance to get revenge.  We act as

if it never happened!  And we talked

about how difficult it is to say I’m

sorry, & I Forgive you, and mean it.

Since it takes a big person to forgive,

we used a whale, the biggest animal on

earth, as a reminder to be that big

person.  and we found a whale eraser

to remind us that when we forgive,

we “erase” what was done to us, and act

like it never happened.  Jesus gave us

the best example when we ask him to forgive us, he takes away our sin and it’s like all that wrong has been erased from our life.

In Matthew 6:14, Jesus said, If you forgive men when they sin against us, your father will also forgive you.

And just for fun, some momentum kids became “Monster size Sorry pieces”....those kids are crazy and will do anything!!!

November 8, 2009

Momentum Kids Rocked today, literally!  Everyone had a chance to play rock band as we talked about how Everybody has a part to play in God’s plan.  in the game, you win when everyone does their part.  When we all serve God, and do what he asks us to do, his gospel will be shared with those around us and around the world!  We all win!

God has a plan for us, jesus said, “as the father has sent me, I am sending you”  God had a specific plan for Jesus, and he has a plan for us as well.  When we follow the instructions of his word, and pray for direction, our lives will truly rock!!

November 1, 2009

Just like we were all given

candy yesterday, we can

give too!  Today we talked

about the 3 things we can

give: Our time, talent, and

money. We can give our

time to the lonely, our

talents to the needy, and

our money to help share

God’s love around the

world!

We looked at Matthew 25:35 WHEN JESUS TOLD US HOW IMPORTANT GIVING IS.  AND WHEN WE GIVE, NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE GIFT, HE SEES IT.  IT IS JUST AS IF WE GAVE IT TO JESUS HIMSELF

Steph made us a quick Candyland video about sharing! you can see it on the Momentum Kids Facebook page

October 25, 2009

Today we talked about how important it is to

    “Make Your Words Count”

In scrabble, different letters have different values.  We said that telling someone in your class or on your ball team about jesus is great, as long as they don’t hear you saying other things that aren”t christlike!  If you tell a friends that Jesus loves them, and then say mean things about that person the next day, your words are not going to count. They can’t be trusted!  We all took home a scrabble tile to remember to be careful about what we say!!  Make that word count For jesus!

We also collected our first BGMC offering today: $70.27!!!! Way to go, Momentum Kids!!!  We will be doing local outreach projects in woodstock, and participating in global outreaches for children, as well!  Let your child put his barrel back where he can see it and earn money for it.  This is the time for them to learn to give their money, not mom and dad’s.  (but mom and dad can help them find ways to earn a quarter here and there)

Next Sunday we will be looking at Giving, by way of the game, Candyland!  Since it will be the day after halloween, it seemed only right to schedule that game!!

October 18, 2009

Today was so loud and so messy in Momentum Kids!! But what a way to remember to “beat Temptation!”  As we are continuing our series on How important it is to follow the instructions that god gave us in his word!  We talked about how often we are tempted to fight with our siblings or talk back or disobey our parents.  We talked about the times when it just seems easier to lie or cheat than to tell the truth.  But we learned  from Hebrews 2 that because jesus was tempted just like we are, he can help us when we go through those temptations.  and we all determined that we were going to “beat temptaion”!  Just to practice, we played “whack-A-Mole” and then we all put our temptation on the floor and we stomped it to teeny tiny pieces!  It was so much fun!

and we will be playing whack-A-Mole again during our pre-service time next sunday, so come early and be ready!

Also, Sunday, the 25th will be our first BGMC missions sunday so everyone can bring their barrels with their missions offering.  We are striving to make a difference in both Woodstock and the world!  (if you have all ready brought your barrel this month, I have kept that offering aside, and we will combine it this Sunday.  We will have a contest between the boys and the girls to see who has been working hard to earn coins to help missionaries! (Again, no individual amounts of money will be reported.  Everyone who participates will be included in any prizes, no prizes are given based on amount)

October 11, 2009

don’t get twisted!!!  That was today’s topic!  We were talking about how some people may try to twist what the bible says and make things very complicated.  But, really, it’s very simple.  Our salvation is a gift from God through his son, jesus.  and jesus himself said in Mark 12 that there are two things we should do;  love God and love our neighbor.

We played some twister today, and we twisted up some pipe cleaners.  But we found that if we took those pipe cleaners and made an “l” with them, that it would remind us of those two things.  The part that points up, reminds us to love god, and the part that points right, reminds us to love our neighbor.

we also watched a video with Gene, the hound dog, who gave us some facts about the bible and how we can know that it’s true.  Ask your kids about Gene. He’s a funny dog!  We will try and get a bit of Gene’s video on the momentum kids facebook page!

Next week we will be playing “whack a Mole” and learning about beating temptation!!  You don’t want to miss next week!!

October 4, 2009

Today was the kick off for our new Mega-Challenge ’09.  We will be studying God’s word and learning how it is the very best Guide for having the very Best Life!  Each week we will use a different game to remind us of how God’s word applies in our life.

Today we played some tic-tac-toe and looked at how sometimes X wins and sometimes O wins, but when we live by god’s word we always win.  God’s word in always right.  We also talked about the importance of following instructions. We had a couple of girls try to make cookies without instructions.  They had the ingredients, just not the amounts and how to make them.  What a mess!  Instructions are a good thing!  And God’s word is the best set of instructions that we can ever find!

And Today was Friend day and we had 12 friends in Momentum Kids for the first time today!  What a blast!  Next week in Super twister!  Gotta make sure we can “spot” you there!

See you Sunday!

September 27, 2009

Today we finished up the perfect Puzzle Palooza series.

In a snapshot, this is how the series went:

God Made everyone special, just like A puzzle

God Made our families Special to fit together

God made Momentum Kids to fit together

                            special!

and today, we finished with how God made each of us to fit into His plan for the world. “SSHHH and shout out Loud” was our title today.  some secrets we keep, like what we are giving our parents for christmas, but some things we don’t want to keep a secret.  We want to shout it out loud.  Like how much jesus loves us!  We want everyone to know.  We introduced our BGMC, Missions  program for kids.  We talked about how we want to help people in woodstock and around the world know jesus.  Each barrel bank had an explanation of our approach to missions, and if any parents have a question, please email me!

We also talked about the woman who lost a coin.  Jesus said she swept the house and when she found it she called her neighbors and had a party!  Everyone took home a quarter to remind them to “find” a friend and bring to Momentum kids next week.  Our goal is 100 kids!  If we reach that, we will have a party, too!!

Sept, 20, 2009

Today the Momentum kids brought back the coins they earned this week for being kind and helping their families to “Fit” together nicely.  AFter getting their prizes, we talked about how a baby that is potty training sometimes gets a treat for using the potty.  But that’s just to get them started.  If they quit using the potty when they didn’t get a prize, they would have some real problems.  It’s better for us to use a potty, than our pants.

The same analogy holds true for being kind.  The prizes are to get us started, but our lives will be better if we keep doing it, even without the prize.

And we looked at 1 Corinthians 12:12 where we learned that every body has many parts. The parts are all different, but they all have a purpose and fit together to make a whole person.  At Momentum Kids, we all are different, but we all fit together to make a whole church family.  We had Mr. Potato head with some weird faces, but saw that all eyes would make it hard to hear or eat.  We all have our place, and everyone is important!

September 13, 2009

Today we talked more about how

god made our families perfect.

Families are all different.  A dad,

A mom, Brothers and sister, dogs

and Cats.  Some families have grandparents, aunts and cousins all living together.  Some families only have a dad, or a mom, and some have step-moms and step-dads and step-brotheres or sisters.  regardless of how your family is arranged, God has his plan for you.  We looked at the example of Moses.  He didn’t get to grow up with his mom and dad.  He was adopted by Pharoah’s daughter.  But god had a plan!  And Moses did great things for God’s people!

We also made a great Momentum Kids puzzle.  You will see soon what is going to happen to that!  And parents can check out the next page to find the details to the “Kindness Coins”
