I am a wife, a mother, an exiled New Orleanian,
a reader, and a writer. Welcome.

email me

So, Hollywood released a remake of The Women this week.

In case you haven’t seen the 1939 original, treat yourself.

It’s amazing. Great dialogue, incredible performances, and amazing clothes and nail polish. And it’s got a really great message about gossip. Without one man in the entire production, there are classic character actresses working alongside Shearer, Crawford, and Russell.

One of my favorite things is getting the call from my older sister that it is coming on. We watch it together, over the phone and wine in hand, and crack up.

Why remake a film that inspires such long- distance devotion? Why?

Stick with original. Jungle Red, baby!

So, it’s been awhile. It was a crazy evacuee-haven over here. It was nuts and included our first ER trip (due to a fight with a coffee table---three year old, black eye swollen shut, Dermabond surgical glue...I think you get where I have been.)

Anyway, as an Independent in an election year, it’s always fun reading my emails.

I get forwards and links within moments of each other from pals, on opposite sides, trying to lure me in. Rarely, do I read something without an obvious agenda... that’s just a good article pure and simple..

And you can imagine the influx of these since Gov. Palin’s nomination. I find myself linked to looney liberal and crazy conservative sites regularly. I even said out loud once, “How did I get here?”

Today, my dear friend, Kathy, brought me to a site showing, among other things, a very young Reagan on the beach in some ad, as well as this lovely article. It praises Gov. Palin, but not for any view or policy she upholds. It’s an article about the acceptance of Down Syndrome in politics.

Here’s the link...

So, the one benefit of having relocated post-Katrina is that I get to be that ‘safe haven’ for some members of my family.

My siblings that live in New Orleans have evacuated all over. One family is safe in Memphis, two are in Baton Rouge, and a very brave sister, an ICU nurse, will ride out Gustav with her patients at University Hospital.

My mother and two of my brothers are here at my house in Mississippi. Along with his girlfriend (who’s a great gal,) my brother brought her cat, Baby, and a few “friends.”

Pictured above is Spot, the beloved lizard belonging to the third graders at The Good Shepherd Nativity School, where he works as development director. He also brought the school’s guinea pig, Diamond.

I think Spot looks happy. I know my boys are.

There is nothing more to do now but watch Anderson Cooper and pray.

So, please pray for us to Our Lady of Prompt Succor ---

Pray for her to wrap her mantle around New Orleans, once again.

Pray for her to save the soil that inspired Percy, Toole, and Williams.

Pray for her to ask her Son to spare us from loss of life and property.

Ms. Pelosi has been publicly corrected for her lack of knowledge of Church teaching.

Read the whole article. Some of the language and manipulations, especially by Mr. Biden, are truly freaky teaky. Abortion, a venial sin? Right up there with saying the dog ate your homework?

Yikes.
