Today was Mason’s first day of school as a FIRST GRADER! He was very excited this morning and even woke up a little early. We had some yummy breakfast tacos and then Mason dressed himself while I got his backpack ready (taking the tag off for starters). Owen insisted on dressing in his school shirt since it was the first day of school. I guess I’ll be washing it again before his actual first day of school on Wed. After a few first day of school pictures at home, we loaded up the family and headed to school.
He was really excited as we walked in. He said, “I already know what to do since I’m in first grade now.” We got to walk him to his class since it was the first day of school. He quickly found his cubby and settled into his seat at the yellow table. Barrett took a couple of pictures while I tried to rope Owen in and keep him away from the sorting games. He really wanted to play with the games! When we left, Mason was smiling and starting to draw a picture about what he did over the summer (a perfect activity for him).
When Owen and I got back home, I quickly realized that while the boys argued quite a bit this summer (especially towards the end) they were good entertainment for each other. Owen was ready to play and he wanted me to play everything with him. We played monster trucks, played Mouse Trap, played monster trucks, worked puzzles, played monster trucks, played volleyball, and read stories. Oh, and we played with monster trucks some, too. I was exhausted by the time we needed to go to his school for meet the teacher. :)
When we picked Mason up from school, he was a little quiet at first, but as we walked to the car he started telling me all about his day. He loves his teacher and kept saying she was “awesome!” He told me, “Mom, I can’t wipe the smile off my face. What does that tell you?” (How cute is that!!) I answered that it tells me he had a good day and that it made me very happy to hear him say that.
I decided that we needed to have an activity to release a little energy, so I took them to get some ice cream and play on an indoor playground out of the heat. The boys were so happy to see each other and played so nicely together. It’s always nice to see that they do actually love each other and enjoy each other’s company from time to time. :)

Mason’s First Day of School
