Technology is Everywhere at Ashley Falls!
Technology can be found throughout Ashley Falls in a variety of ways. First and foremost, we have a wonderful state-of-the-art computer lab equipped with 28 all-in-one iMac computers. Each is loaded with the latest software, including the iLIfe Suite (i.e. iMovie, iTunes, Garageband) and Mircosoft Office applications. Every student is fortunate to visit the computer lab at least every other week. Desktop computers are also all over the school, located in classrooms, our learning hallways and in quiet rooms. In addition, students have access to laptops and AlphaSmart word processing machines.
Our entire school is connected via a secure network, allowing staff and students the ability to save work on the server in order to continue working and print anywhere on our campus. Instructionally, teachers are able to teach lessons with the aid of LCD projectors, making everything from modeling math problems to sharing student work easier than ever before.
As if all this weren’t enough, our school is also outfitted with closed-circuit television system used each Monday morning to air our weekly Eagle Eye News broadcast. These broadcasts may be viewed by clicking on icon in the upper left-hand corner of this page or by clicking on the Ashley Falls in Action bar below the latest school photo on the Ashley Falls main page.
Ashley Falls is an amazing cutting edge school. Your contributions to the Del Mar Foundation make this a reality for our students.
WHY Apple versus PC?
Apple is often the computer of choice in many educational settings. But do you know some of the reasons why? Built into every Mac computer is the iLife suite of digital authoring tools including iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garageband and iWeb. This enables students to express themselves as never before. These applications have been the cornerstone for creating DVDs of 6th grade Camp and the Star of India, as well as musical compositions started with Miss Mitchell during music class and finished in the Computer Lab. In addition, Mac OSX offers a range of Universal Access features for students with every learning style. They can use built in text-to-speech synthesis, speech recognition, screen zooming, and sticky keys. Mac OSX also includes VoiceOver, a fully integrated screen reader technology that offers a spoken English interface. With multiple languages built in as well, Mac OSX provides an unprecedented level of accessibility. Stop by Ashley Falls and in particular the Tech Lab to see this amazing technology.
