Artist's Statement
“I see the world from alternative perspectives. Both the world of my origin and the world of my being are etched and intertwined on my canvas. Surrealism emerges as my art reflects my need to graphically interpret the things that bear upon my life experiences to this point. Fabric and paint, color, contrast and juxtaposition, pathways to doorways...these are the elements with which I communicate my vision.
I construct and deconstruct people in the routines of life. Every activity is part of the journey through life, a journey of thought and action.
Each element in each piece of artwork is placed for a reason. Even the spaces between those elements has meaning. It is a complete vision that, when completed, speaks to the heart. So until the artwork speaks clearly from my heart, it does not leave my easel.”

Rouby Jeanty’s career as an artist started at the age of twelve. As a young man Rouby enrolled at Tri-Chem, a private school of art in Haiti. Rouby exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitons before moving with his parents from his native Haiti to Maryland in the United States. There he studied art at the University of the District of Columbia.
Influenced by his curator to work with fabric, Rouby experimented with a variety of media, techniques and styles. As an outcome, his recent works are mixed media with a strong use of patterned fabric, inspired by the colorful imagery found in his native homeland. Rouby Jeanty’s art is currently featured in the Fondo del Sol Visual Arts Center in Washington, DC.
