Commonwealthlings,

The subject of Haiti dominated last night's Board Meeting. As you all know, it's a disaster beyond description. We felt the Commonwealth Club should do something and try to make it as significant as we can. We decided we would like to support The LAMP for HAITI.

www.LAMPforHAITI.org

It's a great organization that already has a presence there. My own physician, James Morgan, is on the board and down in Haiti right now. We've already started supporting them with medical supplies as per the previous post.

What we would like to do is donate $500 from our Community Chest. Each Board Member is also donating individually to at least double that amount. We challenge the rest of the Club to blow our doors off and multiply our donation by a factor of X. If each of you gave just $20 we'd be able to give over $6,000.

We also hope some of you corporate types have some matching possibilities.

If so, by all means take advantage of that. Let us know how much you give and the amount of your company's match so we can count you as one of us.

For the rest of us, we'll combine all the donations and send them directly to LAMP so they can do the greatest good. Checks should be made out to: LAMP for HAITI. You can drop donations off at the Club, put them in the bowling envelope, give them to a board member or mail them to us at 26 Northview Ave., Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.

We will collect money donations from now through the Super Bowl then send them along.

Steve Barnett has placed a box for medical supplies in our foyer.

In addition, there is an event at Egan's on Sunday, RELIGHT the LAMP. Chris and Sharon are donating 10% of food receipts and there will be 50/50's and such. It goes from 3 to 10 p.m.,  and the games will be on there as well as at the Club.

Bless all your generous little hearts and the people of Haiti.
