Spud & Chloe’s ‘Polly Pullover’ KAL
I always liked this pattern by Spud & Chloe, but I was a little concerned about how the pullover would look on me, because of the combination of the heavy gauge yarn and the negative ease (that is, it seemed to fit really tightly across the chest!) So when Susan Anderson announced a KAL for a modified, cardigan version of the pattern, I decided to give it a try.
I used 7 skeins of Spud & Chloe Outer in Flannel and followed the pattern instructions, along with Susan’s modifications. I knit on US 11 needles - what fun to knit a sweater in this bulky yarn, I finished in three days! I opted for the short-sleeved version - although I like how Susan’s long-sleeved option looks, I was afraid that the combination of bulky yarn and long sleeves would make ME look bulky, too. Susan also recommended going a size smaller than you normally would, since she was adding in the button bands, so I knit a size medium - given the design of this top, I would have knit it in a size large, so I thought that medium - with button bands - would be just about right. I’m glad I made that call - it’s fitting enough so that it doesn’t look too baggy or bulky, but if I’d gone with a size small, I don’t think I would have ever gotten it buttoned!
I found the wood buttons with carvings on oak leaves at the Button Emporium in Portland - the perfect finishing touch. I may need to tighten the yarn around some of the buttonholes, but I’m going to wear it first and see how it goes. I like this one enough to keep for myself, I think.
