Our yummy new Raw Chocolate Truffle snacks are made in a way that preserves the nutrient rich, raw cacao and are sweetened only with raw agave, a low glycemic index sweetener. All of the ingredients we use are chosen to satisfy our need for ultimate organic quality and sustainable sourcing.
Chocolate is made from the fruit of the cacao tree, Theobroma Cacao, whose literal translation is “Food of the Gods”. Cacao, first grown as a domestic crop by the Mayans over 2,000 years ago, is known to be one of the nutritionally most complex foods on Earth, containing an astonishing array and quantity of minerals and other components. As a source of anti-oxidants and magnesium it is more concentrated than any other food, but that’s just the top of a list that contains more than 100 other valuable nutrients.
The main difference between raw cacao and the chocolate that is typically sold on the open market, (cocoa -- a processed substance) is that raw cacao contains all the original essential fatty acids and amazing taste originally found in the bean.
The ancient Indians of Central America valued cacao so much, that they used it as a currency. Montezuma, the great Aztec emperor, filled his vaults with nearly a billion raw cacao beans instead of gold.
