The 3 Questions

When your child uses a strategy to figure out a word, make sure you ask your child the 3 questions to double check that the word is correct.

  1. 1)Does it LOOK right?  (Do the letters in the word match the word guessed)

  2. 2)Does it SOUND right? (Re-read the sentence to make sure that it sounds correct)

  3. 3)Does it MAKE SENSE? (Does the word make sense based on the story?)
