There’s a lot of truth in that expression. As you can see from the above view of the San Juan Mountain Range, I am fortunate to live in the great and beautiful State of Colorado. I am embarrassed to add that I often take the beauty in my world for granted.
I emigrated here from England with my first wife and our two oldest daughters in 1972, after having served nine exciting years in the Royal Air Force (RAF) Police. My last tour of duty was in the Republic of Cyprus, where I was assigned to duties at Headquarters Provost and Security Services HQ P&SS (NEAF), both at RAF Episkopi and the Polemidia (P&SS) Detachment, near Limassol. My oldest daughters Samantha and Penelope now live with their families in the vicinity of Houston, Texas.
I have just recently retired after completing thirty-two years as a member of the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS). Twenty-nine of those years of those years were served as a member of the Colorado State Patrol (CSP). The remaining time was served with the Office of Preparedness and Security (OPS), which I helped create as part of our State’s Homeland Security initiative following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001. My last assignment was as the Commander of the Patrol’s Troop 8-C, Hazardous Materials Transport Safety and Response, which I was responsible for creating in 1987. Among my responsibilities, was the administration of programs dedicated to the statewide enforcement of hazardous materials transportation laws, rules, and regulations, and the emergency response to hazardous materials transportation incidents.
My wife Elaine and I have been married since September 1, 1979. We live in the Town of Thornton, Colorado, which is a suburb of the Denver Greater Metropolitan Area. We have two daughters Courtney and Allison, who live close by with their families. Between my daughters in Texas and my daughters in Colorado, have been blessed with eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
My parents Norman and Joan, and my younger brother Philip, are no longer with us. I intend to pay tribute to their earthly world’s in subsequent pages within this, my online world. My sister Judith and I survive to keep their memories alive. She lives with her partner Tony in the Town of Macclesfield, which is in Cheshire, England. Her daughter Louise lives nearby in the Town of Bollington.
Like many of you out there in the real world, my life hasn’t been perfect. It’s a daily struggle, both from a financial and an emotional perspective. But, despite the struggles, I have a lot of things to be thankful for. It is those things that I want to focus on in this online view of my personal world.
