In our experience Coach Supervision is essential to maintaining these exacting standards. That is why all Creating the edge coaches and our coaching partners have regular and ongoing supervision and why a number of us are also qualified and practicing Coach Supervisors.


What is its purpose?

For us Supervision is the most important element in continuing coach development.  Once the coach has engaged in a quality professional training and is gaining experience with clients Supervision, be it self, peer, 1:1 or group:

  1. •Accelerates competence

  2. •Maintains professional and ethical standards

  3. •Protects the psychological health of the coach

  4. •Is a major contributor in ensuring a positive and useful experience for the client.


Supervision with a trained Professional Supervisor is the only place where there is both a clear-sighted observer and the safety for a practicing coach to be completely honest and vulnerable. Our intention as Supervisors is therefore to ‘Create a climate that avoids the sense of expert and student and instead to create a ‘play space’ in which the dynamics and pressures of the work can be felt, explored and understood and where new ways of working can be co-created by both supervisor and supervisee working together’ (Hawkins 2006).
