The Portrayal of Suicide in Film

My dissertation focuses on the portrayal of suicide in film. In this work I take a clear sociological approach, but I also draw from Film and Media Studies, and Psychology. It is not exactly a cheerful subject, but there are many reasons to embark on this study.

Through this web page I hope to connect with students, academics, and professionals interested in the same or similar subject(s). This could lead us to exchange ideas and notes, or, maybe even, work on collaborative projects (!).

I am also interested in connecting with people who are in the same boat e.i. writing a thesis or dissertation and that need and can give support...

I blog about this; click on the

About My Dissertation:

addenda:

“Per aspera ad astra” is a Latin phrase that means “Only through bitter adversity can we reach the stars.” I was introduced to it by the late Cia Verrua. I mentioned it here as, for almost every Ph.D. student, the Ph.D. itself is quite an adventurous “adversity” (whether or not we will reach the stars is still all to be ascertained).

The pictures are of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (I took them in July 2009). The main reference is to the documentary “The Bridge” (2006) by Eric Steele. If you have watched it you know why the bridge is featured here...

I am indebted to Lori Ersolmaz and timothy quigley for the idea to create this page and the connected blog respectively.
