JANUARY 27, 2011
On Friday morning, at a meeting of the Coconut Grove BID Executive Committee, Executive Director David Collins submitted his resignation that was accepted immediately.
Collins is now claiming that the board didn’t accept the resignation yet, but my source, who I can’t reveal, indicates that the resignation was accepted. In any case, there is a letter of resignation, and Collins HAS worn his welcome out, and as ghostly as Coconut Grove has become, if Collins is allowed to stay then I want to see his photo album. He must have a couple really great photos of you know who.
Collins, who over the last couple years managed to piss off a growing number of Grove business owners and residents had been targeted for removal as far back as last March, but the decision was postponed because it was feared that unless his removal was handled delicalty he would reveal inside secrets over how BID Chairman and City Commmissioner Marc “Ethics” Sarnoff has been screwing the pooch.
As detailed in my last post, things finally came to a head in December when the complaints against Collins’ behavior and bad temper finally reached a point that could no longer be tolerated.
Here is the copy of the resignation letter that Collins submitted to the Executive Committee this morning.
Rumors coming out of Coconut Grove are that in return for submitting his resignation Collins has been assured a city job.
Of course, if Sarnoff isn’t able to deliver David, perhaps some of those stories that you’ve supposedly threatened to reveal unless they treated you well might be tales you’d like to share over a couple drinks at the Mos Eisley Cantina.
But for now, there’s dancing on the streets - or maybe it was just some folks tripping over the sidewalk bricks on Commodore Plaza.
