HCF just completed shooting its 1st Haiti Artist video series in Jan 2012

For our artist history and video project, the Haitian Cultural Foundation has received a special, generous, discretionary seed grant from FOKAL, the arm of George Soros’ Open Society Foundation based in the heart of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

HCF hired Haiti based production company Gouin Films & Consulting/BohioTV.com and completed  the last week of Jan 2012  a video shoot  with over 2 Terabytes of high definition video (1 full week of invaluable footage and never seen before interviews) featuring Haiti top 12 living artists.

The video project  is aimed at documenting the oral history of some of Haiti’s great living artists – now while they are still here to tell their intriguing and wonderful stories of their art.

The video project involves the participation of Soros’ FOKAL, but also a Haitian led production company to help shoot and edit the video.  HCF is also involved in making sure the art of Haiti is available to young Haitians through its related efforts to assist in the reopening of Le Musée d’Art Haitian du Collège Saint-Pierre, which has one of the finest collections of Haitian art due to the efforts of the Episcopal Church in Haiti in the 1940s and 1950s.

In sum, HCF has organized a collective effort, using young US and Haitian talent to rebuild the arts community, but we need help – immediately – to further our work on these special projects.

Practical Approach

Our approach is to  allow international donors to be able to see immediate and positive results from their contributions in videos and in the wonderful works of art produced by Haitians, directly supporting the local arts community.

As the Haitian Cultural Foundation raises money, a portion goes immediately into projects to support the local Haitian arts community, videoing artists, helping museums rebuild and re-open, teaching young Haitians.

Another portion goes toward our global awareness programs and our 5-year objective of creating a “Haiti Art of a Nation” touring exhibition.

Our local and global efforts reinforce each other.  Effectively, our objective is to create a reinforcing cycle of good news that highlights the best of Haiti and creates a warm and positive response in the hearts of our donors and the broader global arts community.

 IRS approved 501-(C)-3 charitable organization.

“ Tout le plaisir est pour nous de participer à une œuvre qui va rehausser les arts la culture de chez nous. Notre chère Haïti. »

Warmest Regards
