This is were I need to be right now. As a friend of mine wrote to me, having family and friends around you again feels like being wrapped in a nice warm blanket. Mmmmmm!

After sleeping 14 hours Sunday and Monday night I’m beginning to feel human again and can begin digesting the last 3 1/2 months with Dakar. Admittedly, it wasn’t easy getting back in the saddle after the accident but after I’d spent a month with a good friend in San Francisco I felt ready to move on and began enjoying riding again.

But what really has made my journey - from the beginning in Buenos Aires to the end in New York City - so spectacular is all the amazing people I’ve met on my way and the new friends I’ve made. It’s very simple: I would never have made it without all of you and without the support from my family and friends at home!! So thank you so much for all the support, help, good company, fun and adventure! You’ve got my e-mail so stay in contact or drop by Cph!

Till the next adventure....

This is it! After 33,000 miles (53.000 km) and 1 year and 3 months on the road Señor Dakar and I have reached our final destination - New York City - on the last leg of our journey that started in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I can’t really describe what it felt like when I rode into Manhattan in the midday summer heat. It was hot as hell but somehow the heat didn’t really get to me. I think I now know what it feels like flying. It’s awesome!!!!!!

Before I got this far I went to the International BMW Rally in Gillette, Wyoming, where I met up with old friends and made new. About 5,000 riders attented the rally and created a small Beemer-city for 5 days. It was a blast! I also got the opportunity to ride the BMW HP2 - a riding machine made for massive attack. Man, is that bike fun to ride!!! I had to let out a scream the first time I twisted the throttle. WOW!
Those were my famous last words before I flooded my friends’ garage floor in Boulder after having been a guest at their house for 18 hours. I think that might be my best guest performance time in the discipline of ‘house wrecking’.

But before I got this far I was in Moab with an unhappy motorcycle. I had tightened the chain without much success. After a 5 mile test ride it was as loose as before. My next stop was Boulder, Colorado, 370 miles (600 km) from Moab but I doubted that I would even make it out of town.

Luckily, the problem was sorted out quickly. Compared to South America spareparts seem to grow on trees in the States. In Moab - a town in eastern Utah with a population of 5,500 - I found a chain for my bike and a couple of hours later I was on my way to Boulder. Brilliant!

Before I left Moab, I went to Arches National Park - just around noon. Not the best timing considering the fact that I was dressed in my Smurf gear with a temperature above 100 F (38 C). However, the sweating was definitely worth the visit.

Honestly, many of the beautiful rock formations here look like they come straight from a different solar system. It’s truly amazing - and very weird!

I stayed two nights in Bluff before I went to Bryce National Park. The ride was absolutely beautiful. I went north on highway 261 which had a short dirt section climbing up a big rock formation which reminded me of my time on the dirt roads in Patagonia.

It’s just truly breathtaking being out on the road with Dakar in these surroundings. No photos will be able to give a just picture of what I have seen so I guess you have to check it out for yourself! You won’t be dissapointed!!!!!

Before I ventured out into the beautiful canyons and desserts of Utah and Arizona I spent another v v hot day in Vegas. Vegas definitely gets 10 points out of 10 for it’s craze but as a holiday destination for a solo traveller I give it -9, especially if you’re not into gamling or shopping. However, after a rather unsuccessful first evening in Vegas I did manage to have an excellent evening on my second night in town. I managed to get a ticket for the George Michael concert which was aboslutely amazing!!!! And as it happened a met a great British couple at the concert with whom I went out for drinks after worth. Brilliant!
