Merry Christmas

The Christmas Season is always a great time to look back and give thanks for all of the blessings of the previous year. And what an eventful year it has been for our family. One that has brought the deepest of lows but has also given us some of our greatest blessings.

We first want to give thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us this past year during Liam’s ongoing battle with brain cancer. We could not have made it through without the faith, prayers, and support of so many people. Words cannot adequately express how much it has meant to us. Liam is doing great right now and, thanks to the skill of the doctors and staff at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, he is like any other 6-year old boy. He is happy, healthy, and active and has no limitations or deficiencies. It still, however, continues to be an emotional roller coaster for Paul and Laura. Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Starts Liam’s $6 Club

Liam showed his caring heart when he learned he would be attending The Heart of Doernbecher Auction where lots of people would be donating money to help children at “his hospital”. He immediately brought his piggy bank down from his room and emptied it out on the table. That night, amid donations of thousands, and tens of thousands of dollars, Liam approached the auctioneer and gave her a little baggie with one dollar bills and told her that he was giving $6 because he is now 6-years old. That small act of charity from Liam brought shouts and cheers and spurred donations of more than $600,000 in the next 15 minutes, an unprecedented amount for the event. Because of the impact Liam had on everyone in that room, the Doernbecher Foundation has created Liam’s $6 Club. As the Foundation stated, “Liam gave as much as he could to help Doernbecher and is prepared to give all he can to beat cancer.
